Residency and Fellowship Information

Montefiore Medical Center, the university hospital for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and its primary teaching affiliates since 1963, is committed to meeting the health care needs of the future through the education of today's new physicians.  Each year approximately 800 medical students and 1,450 resident physicians and fellows receive their clinical training in primary care, as well as a full range of specialties at the Children's Hospital at Montefiore, Moses Division, Weiler Division, North Division (formerly Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center), and other care centers throughout the entire Montefiore system.

Montefiore Medical Center provides postgraduate training in 80 accredited residency and fellowship programs, sponsored by the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, at the Children's Hospital at Montefiore, Moses Division, and Weiler Division, and eight residency and fellowship programs, sponsored by New York College of Medicine, at the North Division. The Board of Trustees, the Medical Staff, and the Administration of Montefiore Medical Center provide a postgraduate training environment with distinguished faculty, adequate financial and educational resources, and excellent support services. All training programs define and monitor personal, clinical, and professional experiences of postgraduate trainees and confirm competency of every trainee in patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, and system-based practice. Montefiore Medical Center is committed to cultivating the exceptional and ethical professional development of all postgraduate trainees throughout the duration of their training, in accordance with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) common program requirements.

Montefiore Medical Center and The Albert Einstein College of Medicine have partnered to provide a unique environment for research training and participation in research for both residents and fellows. Opportunities including: participation in basic, translational, clinical, health services and population research, are supported by resources such as: fellowship funding, loan forgiveness programs, and participation in formal graduate level degree granting educational programs. Additional initiatives supporting these endeavors are: strong mentorship, access to core support services (biostatistics, information technology, grant preparation, bioethics, etc.), and early faculty development awards. The Montefiore-Einstein partnership is fully committed to preparing the next generation of physician scientists engaged in the pursuit of scholarly research activities.
