Montefiore Medical Center has opened a new three suite Cardiac Electrophysiology facility at its Moses Campus to treat patients suffering from arrythmia (abnormal heart rhythms). The $4 million state-of-the-art suites are dedicated to treating people with arrythmia. It is the first and largest such facility in the region dedicated exclusively to treatment of this problem.
"The prevention of sudden cardiac death is among the highest priorities of our team at the Montefiore-Einstein Heart Center," said Spencer Foreman, MD, president of Montefiore. "With three fully equipped electrophysiology treatment suites staffed by medical leaders who pioneered techniques that have become the gold standard in the field, the Arrhythmia Service of the Cardiology Division offers a uniquely broad range of services for patients and their families.
“The Montefiore-Einstein Heart Center is a dynamic program in which talented staff and outstanding referring cardiologists, working together, utilize the very best of current technologies to achieve superlative clinical outcomes," Dr. Foreman said.
The three new suites feature $1.3-million flouroscopic x-ray systems and are equipped to allow for radio frequency ablation treatments and implantation of life-saving devices such as internal cardiac defibrillators and pacemakers. Enhanced imaging capabilities will reduce x-ray exposure, exam times, improve patient care and advance the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac rhythm disorders.
According to the American Heart Association, cardiovascular disease affects more than 61-million Americans and accounts for more than 40-percent of all deaths in the US each year.
A pioneer in the treatment of arrhythmia, cardiac catherization, congestive heart failure and minimally invasive cardiac procedures, Montefiore-Einstein Heart CenterÂ’s historical milestones include: being the first medical center in the world to place a pacemaker lead in a human heart; performing one of the first angioplasties in the nation and establishing one of the first cardiac catherization laboratories in New York State.
